Memorial of the presentation of mary

Readings for the day:
1Maccabees 2:15-19
Psalm 50: 1-2, 5-6, 14-15
Luke 19: 41-44

Today marks the feast of the presentation of mary by her parents to the temple in fulfillment of a vow to be educated. They must have kept their faith to be able to do such a holy act. Similarly, in the first reading of today, mattathias and his family remained unshaken in the faith of their fathers in the midst of persecution. They gathered together before the Lord and refused to offer sacrifices to idols. They stood their ground not to forsake the laws of their fathers nor depart from their religion in the slightest degree.

We are faced with such dilemma in our everyday lives where we chose to either depart from our faith and join the so called “ruling group” or we stick to what we believe in. Many have departed to offer sacrifices to idols via their way of life or what they partake in and other sought. Jesus weep for them. To stick to what we believe in, we must be firmly rooted in christ with the spirit of God dwelling in us. We must likewise follow the laws and commands of God and the teachings of his Holy Church.

For the faithful, Our hearts should continually beat with joy and a great zeal should arouse in us for the faith of our fathers. This is the truth that comes from God and we should continually preach it as love knows how with our actions. Let us remain faithful till death so that Christ would welcome us in the end with a smile for having lived the faith.

May God continue to bless us and May his light never depart from us through christ our lord(Amen).
