Family of God

Tuesday, 17-12-13

Readings for the Day:

Genesis 49:2,8-10
Psalm 72:1-2,3-4ab,7-8,17
Matthew 1:1-17

In the gospel reading of today on the genealogy of Jesus Christ, we are reminded about the one big family we belong to. Starting from Jesus Christ, tracing it back to King David, and then to Father Abraham. We belong to a rich family of the people of God who can trace their origin right to the very beginning. We belong to a royal line in history rich in blessing and beauty by virtue of our being baptized into Jesus Christ and becoming a member of his body.

We should therefore strive to maintain this one big family destined for greater glory and settle our differences within us. We should love and respect each other regardless of our race, status in life, education, gender and position in the society. we should obey and follow the guidance of the Mother Church whom Jesus Christ has left behind to feed his family with his heavenly food and his word, likewise with other ingredients necessary for survival as we journey together in the fields to eternity. As family then, let us encourage and support each other with words and actions reflecting to the world what it means to belong to the family of God.

May God keep and sustain us in all, we ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
