John 1:19-28

Beloved: Who is the Liar? Whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ.- 1John 2:22

John exalts us today with his teaching to beware of those who deny that Jesus is the Christ. They are filled with lies and they have allowed themselves to be rotted in wrongs.

He draws our heart to what the Scriptures has declared for us to be true from the start supported with the Traditions of the Church. This is what He calls us to hang on to, so that we wouldn’t be moved by whatever anyone around us says about the truth of the gospel. Deceivers abound in the world drawing disciples to themselves, but if our feet are soaked in the Mud of Christ, all we do is sink in his Love to never depart again.

As we celebrate the Lives of two friends today whom I have deep respect for, Saints Basil the Great and Gregory Nazianzen, who defended the faith rigorously against the Heresy of their time. Let us stand up as well, rooted in the Love of Christ and defend what we believe in against the plentiful deceivers of our time, whose aim is to prive souls of eternity.

For as John lay out God’s promise in the next verses: that of eternal Life to his people. May we be found wanting full of Confidence on the last day through Christ our Lord, Amen.
