The Authority Behind his Teaching

Tuesday, 14-1-2014

Reading for the day:

1Samuel 1:9-20
1Samuel 2:1, 4-8
Mark 1:21-28

Reflection:

In the gospel reading of today according to the book of Mark, we saw that after hearing Christ, the people were astonished by his teaching and the authority behind it. For his teaching carried a weight different from their teachers. They would have noticed something fascinating before such would have been said. I would make an instance at this point: if a professor and a graduate student is both teaching, there would be a difference in their knowledge base and the kind of authority that each teaching would carry.

Jesus being God, his teaching most definitely portrayed who he was. The question then for us is: Do we still recognize the authority behind Christ’s teachings? Do we still obey Christ’s teaching? What is stopping us from following Christ’s teaching? All these are the questions that we should pause and ask ourselves.

For those that follow God, they find their strength and Solace, just like the case of Hannah in the first reading after some years of barrenness.

May we find strength and solace in our Creator always, we ask this through Christ our Lord, amen.

Peace and Love of Christ
